Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is One. And you shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength,
Deuteronomy 6:4-5 BSB.
Worship: By definition, worship is to honor or show reverence for a divine being or supernatural power. Another definition is, an act of religious devotion usually directed towards a deity or God. It can be performed individually, informally or formally. The question for everyone is who/what are you worshipping? Are you worshiping Jesus Christ of the Bible, manmade idols, your career, fame, looks, money and other sinful things. This article aims to educate, warn and reveal God’s instructions for right worship as it is written. To equip believers with the truth of God’s word.
All the words used in this article are referenced from the scriptures(Bible). Therefore, no human opinion, philosophy or wisdom is applied to make a point. The word of God is inerrant, meaning it’s without error, and It’s sharper than any two edged sword. The Bible clearly says: God is one and is to be worshiped in spirit and truth. He desires a personal relationship with his children. God is Spirit, and His worshipers must worship Him in spirit and in truth, John 4:24 BSB.” Through Jesus Christ. Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me, John 14:6 NLT. For those who have become children of God are the ones who have put their faith in Jesus Christ of whom there is eternal life. Jesus told her And this is the way to have eternal life-to know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, the one you sent to earth, John 17:3 NLT.
It is important to note that the truth cannot be defined by human wisdom, practices and methods, but by God’s word. God’s word should always be the reference point of all things faith based for the true followers of Jesus. “I am the resurrection and the life. Anyone who believes in me will live, even after dying. Everyone who lives in me and believes in me will never ever die.” John 11:25-26 NLT.
What does the Bible says about Jesus Christ:
- “For there is [only] one God, and [only] one Mediator between God and mankind, the Man Christ Jesus, who gave Himself as a ransom [a substitutionary sacrifice to atone] for all, the testimony given at the right and proper time.” 1 Timothy 2:5-6 AMP.
- “And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among people by which we must be saved [for God has provided the world no alternative for salvation].” Acts 4:12 AMP.
- “And Peter said to them, “Repent [change your old way of thinking, turn from your sinful ways, accept and follow Jesus as the Messiah] and be baptized, each of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” Acts 2:38 AMP.
- Now repent of your sins and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped away Acts 3:19 NLT.
- If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by openly declaring your faith that you are saved Romans 10:9-10 NLT.
- You have come to Jesus, the one who mediates the new covenant between God and people, and to the sprinkled blood, which speaks of forgiveness instead of crying out for vengeance like the blood of Abel. Be careful that you do not refuse to listen to the One who is speaking. For if the people of Israel did not escape when they refused to listen to Moses, the earthly messenger, we will certainly not escape if we reject the One who speaks to us from heaven! Hebrews 12:24-25 NLT.
- And so, dear brothers and sisters, we can boldly enter heaven’s Most Holy Place because of the blood of Jesus. By his death, Jesus opened a new and life-giving way through the curtain into the Most Holy Place. And since we have a great High Priest who rules over God’s house, let us go right into the presence of God with sincere hearts fully trusting him. For our guilty consciences have been sprinkled with Christ’s blood to make us clean, and our bodies have been washed with pure water, Hebrews 10:19-22 NLT.
- Under the old system, the blood of goats and bulls and the ashes of a heifer could cleanse people’s bodies from ceremonial impurity. Just think how much more the blood of Christ will purify our consciences from sinful deeds so that we can worship the living God. For by the power of the eternal Spirit, Christ offered himself to God as a perfect sacrifice for our sins. That is why he is the one who mediates a new covenant between God and people, so that all who are called can receive the eternal inheritance God has promised them. For Christ died to set them free from the penalty of the sins they had committed under that first covenant. For Christ did not enter into a holy place made with human hands, which was only a copy of the true one in heaven. He entered into heaven itself to appear now before God on our behalf. And he did not enter heaven to offer himself again and again, like the high priest here on earth who enters the Most Holy Place year after year with the blood of an animal. If that had been necessary, Christ would have had to die again and again, ever since the world began. But now, once for all time, he has appeared at the end of the age to remove sin by his own death as a sacrifice. And just as each person is destined to die once and after that comes judgment, so also Christ was offered once for all time as a sacrifice to take away the sins of many people. He will come again, not to deal with our sins, but to bring salvation to all who are eagerly waiting for him, Hebrews 9:13-15,24-28 NLT.
- For this world is not our permanent home; we are looking forward to a home yet to come. Therefore, let us offer through Jesus a continual sacrifice of praise to God, proclaiming our allegiance to his name, Hebrews 13:14-15 NLT.
What the Bible says about Idolatry: It is the worship of someone or something other than God as though it were God. Another definition is having a great admiration, awe or respect for someone or something often too great. Many religions offer worship to Carved Idols, money, career, Mary, dead saints and apostles, but that is Idolatry. The Bible says: “But Jesus replied to the one who told Him, “Who is My mother and who are My brothers?” And stretching out His hand toward His disciples [and all His other followers], He said, “Here are My mother and My brothers! For whoever does the will of My Father who is in heaven [by believing in Me, and following Me] is My brother and sister and mother.” Matthew 12:48-50 AMP.
Don’t you realize that those who do wrong will not inherit the Kingdom of God? Don’t fool yourselves. Those who indulge in sexual sin, or who worship idols, or commit adultery, or are male prostitutes, or practice homosexuality, 1 Corinthians 6:9 NLT.
- “Then the Lord spoke to you from the midst of the fire; you heard the sound of the words, but you saw no form—there was only a voice.” Deuteronomy 4:12 AMP.
- The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples made by human hands. Nor is He served by human hands, as if He needed anything, because He Himself gives everyone life and breath and everything else. From one man He made every nation of men, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and He determined their appointed times and the boundaries of their lands. God intended that they would seek Him and perhaps reach out for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us. ‘For in Him we live and move and have our being.’ As some of your own poets have said, ‘We are His offspring.’ Therefore, being offspring of God, we should not think that the Divine Being is like gold or silver or stone, an image formed by man’s skill and imagination. Although God overlooked the ignorance of earlier times, He now commands all people everywhere to repent. For He has set a day when He will judge the world with justice by the Man He has appointed. He has given proof of this to everyone by raising Him from the dead.” Acts 17:24-31 BSB.
- “‘You shall not make idols for yourselves; neither a carved image nor a sacred pillar shall you rear up for yourselves; nor shall you set up an engraved stone in your land, to bow down to it; for I am the Lord your God.” Leviticus 26:1 NKJV
- “You shall not make for yourself a carved image any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me,” Exodus 20:4-5 NKJV.
- “I am the LORD your God, who rescued you from the land of Egypt, the place of your slavery. “You must not have any other god but me. “You must not make for yourself an idol of any kind, or an image of anything in the heavens or on the earth or in the sea. You must not bow down to them or worship them, for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God who will not tolerate your affection for any other gods. I lay the sins of the parents upon their children; the entire family is affected-even children in the third and fourth generations of those who reject me, Deuteronomy 5:6-9 NLT.
- “And beware that you do not raise your eyes toward heaven and see the sun and the moon and the stars, all the host of heaven, and let yourselves be led astray and worship them and serve them, [mere created bodies] which the Lord your God has allotted to [serve and benefit] all the peoples under the whole heaven.” Deuteronomy 4:19 AMP.
- “So pay attention and watch yourselves carefully—for you did not see any form [of God] on the day the Lord spoke to you at Horeb from the midst of the fire— so that you do not act corruptly and make for yourselves a carved or sculpted image [to worship] in the form of any figure, the likeness of male or female,” Deuteronomy, 4:15-16 AMP.
- “When you become the father of children and grandchildren and have grown old in the land, then if you corrupt yourselves by making a carved or sculpted image in the form of anything [for the purpose of worship], and do evil [things] in the sight of the Lord your God, provoking Him to anger,” Deuteronomy 4:25 AMP.
In conclusion, “Therefore “Come out from among them And be separate, says the Lord. Do not touch what is unclean, And I will receive you.” II Corinthians 6:17 NKJV. Fear God and turn away from anything that this article brings to your mind. Anything can be an Idol in this world today. Do not live a life that leads to eternal condemnation.
- “Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen.” I John 5:21 NKJV
- “Therefore, my beloved, flee from idolatry.” I Corinthians 10:14 NKJV
I did not shrink back from declaring anything that was helpful to you as I taught you publicly and from house to house, testifying to Jews and Greeks alike about repentance to God and faith in our Lord Jesus Christ, Acts 20:20-21 BSB.
