Everyone who sins is breaking God’s law, for all sin is contrary to the law of God.
1 John 3:4 NLT
ORIGIN OF SIN: The first instance of Sin we see in the Bible is the fall of Lucifer(Satan). Who was an archangel before he was filled with pride, because He wanted to exalt himself and be like God. Lucifer who became Satan led a rebellion against God. He waged war in heaven, was defeated and thrown down to the earth with all the other angels who rebelled with him.
Isaiah 14:12-15 NLT says: “How you are fallen from heaven, O shining star, son of the morning! You have been thrown down to the earth, you who destroyed the nations of the world. For you said to yourself, ‘I will ascend to heaven and set my throne above God’s stars. I will preside on the mountain of the gods far away in the north. I will climb to the highest heavens and be like the Most High.’ Instead, you will be brought down to the place of the dead, down to its lowest depths.
In the Book of Genesis chapter 2 and 3 we see the fall of man as Satan deceives Adam and Eve into eating the forbidden fruit in the middle of the Garden of Eden as God had commanded them not to eat of it, for the day they would eat of it they would surely die. Adam and Eve were the first humans who God created and placed in the garden of Eden.
The LORD God placed the man in the Garden of Eden to tend and watch over it. But the LORD God warned him, “You may freely eat the fruit of every tree in the garden- except the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. If you eat its fruit, you are sure to die.” Genesis 2:15-17 NLT.
Satan successfully managed to tempt Eve and she ate of the forbidden fruit then passed it on to Adam who also ate the fruit which led to disobedience and sin. Adam and Eve both sinned against the commands of God. This is the temptation that led to the fall of man. Sin is described in the Bible as the transgression of the law of God. Sin is disobedience and rebellion against God’s commands. This is the origin of sin for mankind.
“You won’t die!” the serpent replied to the woman. “God knows that your eyes will be opened as soon as you eat it, and you will be like God, knowing both good and evil.” The woman was convinced. She saw that the tree was beautiful and its fruit looked delicious, and she wanted the wisdom it would give her. So she took some of the fruit and ate it. Then she gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it, too. Genesis 3:4-6 NLT.
From the fall of Adam, sin has passed down through all generations of man. Because of one man’s sin, all are born under sin. For since one man sinned all are born in sin. When Adam sinned, sin entered the world. Adam’s sin brought death, so death spread to everyone, for everyone sinned. Romans 5:12 NLT. Due to their disobedience and rebellion against the commands of God, man was cast off from the presence of God, sin fell on mankind and thus it led to separation from God and spiritual death. Adam and Eve fell into spiritual death which also eventually led to physical death. For I was born a sinner- yes, from the moment my mother conceived me. Psalm 51:5 NLT. Just as we inherit physical characteristics from our parents we also inherit the sinful nature from Adam. Sin brings separation from God and leads to both physical death and spiritual death. But there is good news!
SALVATION: In Genesis 3 we see a glimpse of God’s grace by means of covering the nakedness of Adam and Eve with animal skin. Then He put an angel to guard the tree of life so they would not also partake of the tree of life after their downfall so as to live in a fallen state for eternity. Imagine the agony of living in a fallen state for eternity? This animals skin represents a form of sacrifice, which had to be made. An animal must have died. In fact, according to the law of Moses, nearly everything was purified with blood. For without the shedding of blood, there is no forgiveness. Hebrews 9:22 NLT. We can clearly see why their is need for bloodshed for atonement of sin. for the life of the body is in its blood. I have given you the blood on the altar to purify you, making you right with the LORD. It is the blood, given in exchange for a life, that makes purification possible. Leviticus 17:11 NLT.
From the Old Testament times of Moses sin was rampant and the people had to atone for their sins through animal sacrifice each time, but once and for all through the blood of Jesus Christ God has now once and for all perfected all those who are recipients of His grace and mercies.
Yes, Adam’s one sin brings condemnation for everyone, but Christ’s one act of righteousness brings a right relationship with God and new life for everyone. Because one person disobeyed God, many became sinners. But because one other person obeyed God, many will be made righteous. Romans 5:18-19 NLT.
God spares us from the condemnation of sin and death through Jesus Christ. His sacrifice was the hidden mystery from times past now revealed to all humanity. We have to understand that God is just, Holy and righteous. He cannot coexist with sin, henceforth sin has to be punished. The penalty for sin is death.
For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 6:23 NLT.
Jesus Christ, laid His life down willingly to save us all from the condemnation of the devil who through the fall of Adam and Eve usurped Man’s authority. But when the right time came, God sent his Son, born of a woman, subject to the law. God sent him to buy freedom for us who were slaves to the law, so that he could adopt us as his very own children. Galatians 4:4-5 NLT. There is no human being who is without sin. The Bible says the human heart is deceitful above all things. Knowing sin leads to spiritual death and eventual death Christ calls all people to repent and thus put their trust in him to be saved from the coming judgment for God must still judge sin.
Because God’s children are human beings-made of flesh and blood-the Son also became flesh and blood. For only as a human being could he die, and only by dying could he break the power of the devil, who had the power of death. Only in this way could he set free all who have lived their lives as slaves to the fear of dying. Hebrews 2:14-15 NLT
God has given humanity a way to be united to him through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. And just as each person is destined to die once and after that comes judgment, so also Christ was offered once for all time as a sacrifice to take away the sins of many people. He will come again, not to deal with our sins, but to bring salvation to all who are eagerly waiting for him. Hebrews 9:27-28 NLT.
To be saved we have to repent of our sinful ways, that is turn away 180 degrees from sin and believe that Jesus came, lived, died and resurrected victorious of sin and death. It requires faith through obedience. For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ. 2 Corinthians 5:21 NLT. He himself is the sacrifice that atones for our sins-and not only our sins but the sins of all the world. 1 John 2:2 NLT
Salvation is free. It is a gift, free of charge no one deserves it or can earn it by their own standards of personal merit. One needs to repent of their sin and turn to God in humility and acknowledgement of one’s sinfulness. God is gracious that’s why it’s written, For “Everyone who calls on the name of the LORD will be saved.” Romans 10:13 NLT
If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by openly declaring your faith that you are saved. Romans 10:9-10 NLT
SEPARATION: It’s important to remember that we are all born into sin. We all inherit the sin nature from the fallen man Adam. He is our ancestor. The Bible says, For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard. Yet God, in his grace, freely makes us right in his sight. He did this through Christ Jesus when he freed us from the penalty for our sins. Romans 3:23-24 NLT.
But to live in sin and die in sin is a choice one makes for themselves, since God has given all humanity a choice to repent or perish. But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness. 1 John 1:9 NLT. Whoever puts their faith and trust in Jesus is saved by Grace. Their sins are all forgiven and washed away by the shed blood of Jesus Christ. Jesus paid it all. So whoever receives Him, receives life and whoever denies Him denies life.
Some of you were once like that. But you were cleansed; you were made holy; you were made right with God by calling on the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God. 1 Corinthians 6:11 NLT.
Since we now know how sin came to be and how all of us have fallen short of God’s standards. Sin leads to death as we have also learnt, both spiritual and physical death. Sin leads to separation from God. Sin must be judged and God has already judged sin now and forever through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ and that is the offer of salvation that saves from eternal separation from God’s presence. Whoever puts their faith in Jesus Christ, repents and is baptized is saved from the penalty of sin which is death. God will judge all those who do not repent of all their sins when the end of time comes. It is appointed for man to die once and after that comes judgment, those who die in their sins will face judgment and eternal separation from God. Those who repent and put their faith in Jesus Christ will be saved. For generations God has sent his prophets into the world to share in His saving grace but mankind has refused to repent and continued to live in rebellion and disobedience. God finally sent His only begotten son and He was persecuted and crucified on the cross. God’s offer for mankind still exists. His arms are still wide open today, but mankind chooses rebellion and disobedience. A day is coming that Christ will return and judgment will fall on all mankind.
The Bible is very clear on what God approves and does not approve and who will not inherit his kingdom.
- 2 Peter 3:9 NLT: The Lord isn’t really being slow about his promise, as some people think. No, he is being patient for your sake. He does not want anyone to be destroyed, but wants everyone to repent.
- 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 NLT: Don’t you realize that those who do wrong will not inherit the Kingdom of God? Don’t fool yourselves. Those who indulge in sexual sin, or who worship idols, or commit adultery, or are male prostitutes, or practice homosexuality, or are thieves, or greedy people, or drunkards, or are abusive, or cheat people-none of these will inherit the Kingdom of God.
- Romans 1:28-32 NLT: Since they thought it foolish to acknowledge God, he abandoned them to their foolish thinking and let them do things that should never be done. Their lives became full of every kind of wickedness, sin, greed, hate, envy, murder, quarreling, deception, malicious behavior, and gossip. They are backstabbers, haters of God, insolent, proud, and boastful. They invent new ways of sinning, and they disobey their parents. They refuse to understand, break their promises, are heartless, and have no mercy. They know God’s justice requires that those who do these things deserve to die, yet they do them anyway. Worse yet, they encourage others to do them, too
- Galatians 5:19-21 NLT: When you follow the desires of your sinful nature, the results are very clear: sexual immorality, impurity, lustful pleasures, idolatry, sorcery, hostility, quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, dissension, division, envy, drunkenness, wild parties, and other sins like these. Let me tell you again, as I have before, that anyone living that sort of life will not inherit the Kingdom of God.
- Revelation 22:7,10-15 NLT: “Look, I am coming soon! Blessed are those who obey the words of prophecy written in this book.” Then he instructed me, “Do not seal up the prophetic words in this book, for the time is near. Let the one who is doing harm continue to do harm; let the one who is vile continue to be vile; let the one who is righteous continue to live righteously; let the one who is holy continue to be holy.” “Look, I am coming soon, bringing my reward with me to repay all people according to their deeds. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.” Blessed are those who wash their robes. They will be permitted to enter through the gates of the city and eat the fruit from the tree of life. Outside the city are the dogs-the sorcerers, the sexually immoral, the murderers, the idol worshipers, and all who love to live a lie.
